    Accessibility

XRGuide is built for everyone including people of all abilities and capabilities.

    Our commitment

XRGuide follows the ethical standards of the XR Guild including a commitment to accessible and inclusive design. We believe immersive media should be reachable by everyone and we hold both ourselves and the experiences in our catalog to that standard.

    In the XRGuide app

    Screen reader support

XRGuide supports VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android. Every interactive element — world cards, tabs, buttons, filters, and form fields — has an accessible label. Navigation landmarks are marked up correctly so screen reader users can move through the app efficiently. We test with VoiceOver and TalkBack before every release.

    Dynamic Type and large text

XRGuide respects your device's text size settings. The app is tested at 200% system text size on iOS. Content reflows rather than truncating or overlapping.

    Reduced motion

If you've enabled "Reduce Motion" in your device accessibility settings, all animations in XRGuide are disabled or significantly reduced. No content requires animation to understand. The reduced-motion preference is detected automatically — you don't need to set it in the app.

    Color and contrast

XRGuide uses high-contrast text on dark backgrounds. Primary text achieves a 14.6:1 contrast ratio (WCAG AAA). Gold accent text on dark surfaces achieves at least 5.2:1 (WCAG AA+). Action labels pass WCAG AA. We do not rely on color alone to convey meaning — all status indicators include text labels.

    Touch targets

All interactive elements meet or exceed the 44×44 point minimum touch target size recommended by Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and Google's Material Design. Filter chips that appear small visually have expanded tap areas.

    Comfort, motion, and photosensitivity

Every world in XRGuide displays a comfort rating (Comfortable / Moderate / Intense) and a photosensitivity flag where applicable. These labels appear on world cards and are always shown in full on the World Detail page before you enter an experience — never hidden behind a tap or expansion. These ratings follow the XR Guild Comfort Standards.

    Captions and audio-only experiences

Where a world supports captions or has an audio-only mode, this is noted in the Accessibility section of its detail page. We actively surface these features so users who rely on them can find suitable experiences quickly.

    Accessibility settings in the app

Profile → Settings → Accessibility lets you set your preferences for:

    • Reduced motion (in addition to the system-level setting)
    • Large text override
    • High contrast mode
    • Captions preference (surfaces caption-enabled worlds first)
    • Audio descriptions preference
    • Photosensitivity warning opt-in (shown on every world by default)

    In the XRGuide catalog

What we look for in submissions

When we review world submissions for the catalog, accessibility is part of our evaluation criteria. We give preference to experiences that offer seated play options, teleport locomotion, comfort adjustments, and captioning. We note accessibility features on every listing where they're available.

    Comfort standards reference

Our comfort and accessibility ratings are aligned with XR Guild standards. You can read the full standards at xrguild.org.

    Known limitations

The XRGuide map feature (available under the Map tab) currently links to an external web map. The full native interactive map is in development — when it launches, it will include accessible controls. In the interim, the map page at xrguide.app/map is keyboard-navigable.

Creator Portal submission forms on xrguide.app are keyboard-navigable and screen-reader compatible. If you encounter any barrier, please let us know.

    Feedback and contact

We actively want to hear about accessibility barriers in XRGuide. If you encounter something that doesn't work with your assistive technology, or if you'd like to suggest an accessibility improvement, please reach out:
